I drew this character in pencil and then traced over my drawing using the vector tool in Illustrator (time consuming, but I used it often to improve the appearance of my drawings). I used a more realistic art style than I normally used for cartoon characters at the time. I wanted this drawing to demonstrate an understanding of more realistic human proportions and other concepts I learned about during my drawing classes in college. But I also wanted it to represent my preferred style of artwork, and so it's still a cartoon, but the character also has a bit more realism in his design than a lot of cartoon characters. Adding details like collarbones and folds in fabric, along with a natural looking pose makes this more realistic. The expression turned out very well, and to try something different I used shades of gray with color in the background.
